Expertise :

Tetsuya Ishikawa completed his PhD at the University of Tokyo in 1982 with work on dynamical X-ray diffraction experiments. He joined the Photon Factory as a research associate in 1983 and led the precision X-ray optics end-station. In 1989, he joined the University of Tokyo as an Associate Professor where he worked on X-ray phase retarders and nuclear resonant scattering. The high-resolution X-ray monochromator that he developed using the “nested channel-cut” technique is now widely used around the world. He joined SPring-8 in 1995 and led its beamline development group until 2005. From 2001 to 2005, he led the SASE XFEL R&D project, which resulted in the construction of the SACLA user facility. Since 2006, he has served as the director of RIKEN SPring-8 Center.
