Expertise : Dr. Yuji Sano is a user of SPring-8 and SACLA facilities from the industrial sector. In 1977, he joined Toshiba Corporation where he developed instrumentation and control system for nuclear plants. In 1994, he initiated R&D on maintenance technologies associated with high power lasers for operating nuclear power reactors. In 1997, he organized a project of laser peening in Toshiba and coordinated R&D among the members of the project team. Since 1999, laser peening has been used as preventive maintenance against stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at Japanese nuclear power reactors. From 2006 to 2012, he served as a Senior Fellow at the Power and Industrial Systems R&D Center, Toshiba Corporation. Since September 2014, he has worked full-time as a Program Manager for the ImPACT (Impulsing Paradigm Change through Disruptive Technologies) program, a newly funded national program.
