Expertise : Thomas Tschentscher studied Physics at Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Hamburg and completed his PhD in 1993 with work on concident Compton scattering experiments using very hard X-rays. He joined the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in 1993 to build an instrument for the use of very hard X-rays for diffraction and scattering experiments (ID15). In 1997 he joined DESY as a senior staff scientist and led the industry relations group until 2000. In 2000 he joined the team to develop the science and technical case for the European XFEL that was published in 2001 (at that time under the name TESLA XFEL). Following he continued the design of X-ray FEL experiments and proposed and participated in ultrafast and high intensity experiments at SPPS (SLAC), FLASH and ESRF. In 2006 he joined the European XFEL team and since 2009 he is one of the scientific directors. |
