Expertise : Mr. Takahiro Miura joined Toshiba Corporation in 1999 where he developed ultrasonic measurement and inspection techniques. In 2000, he joined an R&D project developing laser ultrasonic testing (LUT), which has the potential to enable remote and contact-free inspection for early detection of stress corrosion cracking (SCC). He achieved the world’s first application of LUT for operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) in 2004. From 2008 to 2014, he directed R&D using LUT for in-process monitoring for poor welding. Since 2011, inspection systems for welding soundness have been used for manufacturing welded rotors with a thick welded depth of over 100 mm. Recently, he was designated an Assistant Program Manager for ImPACT (Impulsing Paradigm Change through Disruptive Technologies), a newly-funded national program, where he has worked full-time since September 2014.
