Expertise : Shigekazu Suwabe received his PhD in 1998 from Tohoku University for studies of the magnetic properties of Fe-Ta-N nanocrystalline thin films used for magnetic recording head applications. He joined Hitachi Metals, Ltd. as a researcher of magnetic materials in 1986. He led the development of soft magnetic thin films and giant magneto-resistive (spin valve) films for magnetic recording head applications from 1986 to 2001. He served as general manager for the magnet plant that manufactures both rare earth and ferrite magnets from 2009 to 2012. He has served as the president of the Magnetic Materials Company of Hitachi Metals, Ltd. since 2013. Under his management, NEOMAX Engineering Co., Ltd. has supplied undulators to SPring-8 and SACLA.
