Expertise :

Masaki Takata obtained his PhD in Materials Science at Hiroshima University in 1989 using High Resolution Electron Microscopy. In 1997, he joined the Applied Physics Department at Nagoya University and pioneered the application of the MaxEnt concept to charge density studies to understand the structure/property relationships of functional materials and invented a novel approach to the bonding nature study using Synchrotron Radiation Powder diffraction. He moved to JASRI/SPring-8 in 2003 to become Director of the Research and Utilization division. In 2006, he moved to the RIKEN SPring-8 Center to lead the structural materials science team as a Chief Scientist. He promoted a range of industries proposing the core application of SPring-8 using a novel scheme of collaboration with the academic world.

Dr. Takata is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of ESRF-SAC, Executive Committee of the International Union of Crystallography.
