Expertise : Efim Gluskin completed his PhD at the Siberian Branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences in 1973 with studies of the electronic structures of small molecules using soft x-ray spectroscopy. He built the first synchrotron radiation beamline in 1972 at the BINP, Novosibirsk, and continued to lead synchrotron radiation experiments there at the VEPP-2M storage ring. In 1990 he joined the Advanced Photon Source (APS) and soon after took the leadership role in development of APS insertion devices. He led the APS team that, in 2001, successfully demonstrated the first self-amplified spontaneous emission free-electron laser saturation in the visible and UV regions. After that he provided technical leadership in the design and construction of the undulator line for the Linac Coherent Light Source. From 1999 until 2010 he served as Director of the experimental and accelerator divisions of the APS. |
