Expertise :

Since 2003, Kazuto Yamauchi has been a Professor at Osaka University. Since 2008, he has also served as a Leader of the Center of Excellence for Atomically Controlled Fabrication Processes at Osaka University, established as a prestigious research and education center. He received his PhD in 1991 from Osaka University. He is working in the field of optical fabrication and is attempting to create atomically controlled surfaces through developing new surface processing and evaluation methods. In X-ray optics, he has produced reflective devices with atomic precision in the hard X-ray regime. This includes an X-ray nanoprobe with a sub-10nm diameter, the smallest reported for X-ray beams generated by humans. In addition, he achieved high-precision focusing of an XFEL: 1μm and sub-50nm focusing optics were developed by his research team in 2012 and in 2013, respectively, and installed at SACLA. Many mirror devices developed based on his methods are being delivered to cutting-edge beamlines at worldwide synchrotron radiation facilities such as SPring-8, SACLA, LCLS, and DESY, where they will be utilized in the forefront of X-ray science as ultimate-quality devices.
