Expertise : Joel Brock completed his PhD in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1987 working on synchrotron X-ray scattering studies of hexatic phases in freely suspended films of liquid crystals. He was a post-doctoral research associate at MIT from 1987 to 1989, developing beamline X20 at NSLS and working in UHV surface diffraction. In 1989, he joined the faculty of Cornell University in the School of Applied and Engineering Physics as an assistant professor, was promoted to associate professor in 1995, and to full professor in 2001. He was PI of the G-line expansion of CHESS in 1999 and served as Director of the School of Applied & Engineering Physics from 2000-2007. He served as Director of the G-line Division of CHESS from 1999-2011 and as associate Director of CHESS from 2012-13. He has served as Director of CHESS since 2013.
